Pediatric Physical Therapy in Santa Clarita

Branches and Balance provides pediatric physical therapy in Santa Clarita.  We provide both individual and group settings for your child’s care. Additionally, we offer children’s exercise classes.

Fitness, learning, and family are the foundations of Branches and Balance. Group therapy is especially beneficial for children who require physical therapy. Additionally, group fitness classes can supplement treatment.  We also invite parents to actively participate in their child’s therapy sessions.

While group treatment and fitness are not commonly offered within the Santa Clarita Valley, we feel that they significantly improve treatment outcomes. In general, group sessions are undervalued in current medical practice.

Physical therapy for children provides a safe environment to grow and improve as challenges with movement and physical abilities arise. All children can benefit from our physical therapy and exercise classes. Learn More about Branches and Balance.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides children with a support system while they are receiving treatment. During group treatments, they are surrounded by peers who are struggling with similar challenges. In the long run, this can boost your child’s psychological welfare while also pushing them to progress faster.  Group therapy can be a great supplement to individual therapy, but also has value by itself. Visit our Treatment page.

Individual PT

When participating in one-on-one physical therapy, or physiotherapy, a child receives dedicated attention from the therapist. Treatment primarily includes exercises, developmental activities, stretching. Additionally, other activities aiming to improve movement and help children progress physically can be incorporated. This individualized attention allows for more frequent adjustments to treatment.  Visit our Treatment page.

Group Exercise Classes

Exercise classes provide a way for children to build strength and fitness. When participating in fitness classes surrounded by peers, exercise becomes more fun. Additionally, our fitness classes are directed by a physical therapist. Due to this, you can rest assured that they will be safe while also being pushed to grow physically. Of course, our classes provide age appropriate activities to promote development. Visit our Exercise Classes page.

Evals and Consults

Physical Therapy Evaluations and Consultations are assessments of your child’s current status. In order to receive treatment, one of these will be the first step. One of these assessments is mandatory prior to treatment. To begin with we will collect information on your child’s medical history. Following this, tests of balance, strength, and development are often completed. This provides complete picture of each patient. Assessments establish a baseline, allowing your physical therapist to build a proper treatment plan. Visit our Evaluations and Consultations page.

Meet Elisabeth, PT, DPT

I have been providing pediatric physical therapy in Santa Clarita since 2014.  While working as a pediatric PT, I have been able to witness the great power children have to improve. Their ability to stay positive in the face of challenges is particularly inspiring.

In order to become a physical therapist, I attended Azusa Pacific University. Completing the program earned me a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. This involved 3 years of classes and multiple hands-on rotations treating patients in various settings. Before beginning my graduate degree, I was able to work in adult outpatient clinics and at a psychiatric hospital assisting physical therapists.  During my hands-on rotations I treated patients at a hospital, 2 outpatient adult clinics, and 2 separate pediatric clinics.

As a mother of 3 spirited daughters, I understand what it is like to face medical challenges. Shortly after birth, 2 of my own little ones required physical or occupational therapy. Obviously, their lives did not have easy starts. While everyone’s struggles are different, I have firsthand experience with my own children.

My goal in providing pediatric physical therapy in Santa Clarita is to always leave the world a better place. To this end, I work hard to improve the lives of the children and teens I help.

Things to Know

What is Pediatric Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy utilizes a variety of techniques to improve movement, strength, and range of motion. Physical Therapists are movement experts.  In a pediatric setting, one of the biggest things we address is Gross Motor Skills. Gross motor skills are what most people think of in regards to developmental milestones—such as crawling, walking, sitting up.  We can improve quality of life and reduce pain.

When working with a younger population, we can’t just assign exercises like an adult would get. We have to get creative and incorporate exercises into PLAY.

How Long Will My Child Need Physical Therapy?

That depends. Treatment times are determined on a case by case basis as no two children are the exact same, and no situations are the exact same. Whether your child is ready for discharge from therapy is constantly being assessed. Treatment time is determined by how quickly your child progresses, your child’s motivation, any underlying conditions, how regularly therapy sessions are attended, and how often you do the homework.

What are Some Common Conditions You Treat?

Physical therapy can help with most neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.  Some of the most common conditions we treat are: Torticollis/Plagiocephaly, Developmental Delays, Prematurity, Down Syndrome/Genetic Disorders, Seizures and Epilepsy.
