My Start

My journey to become a pediatric physical therapist started early, compared to some. I decided on physical therapy as my career my sophomore year in high school. My specialty was not decided on until my final year in graduate school. For undergraduate schooling I spent time in Utah at Brigham Young University, and worked hard to graduate after only 3 1/2 years. I attended Azusa Pacific University for my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Those 3 years were spent in one of 3 classrooms. We dissected our own cadavers in anatomy, studied medical conditions, and practiced treatments on our peers. During school I worked in multiple hands-on rotations treating patients at Huntington Hospital, 2 outpatient adult clinics, and 2 pediatric clinics.

At Work

I have been working as a Pediatric Physical Therapist in the Santa Clarita Valley since 2014.

My experience with children is extensive, especially with Torticollis.  A majority of my time has been spent with children as young as 4 weeks and as old as 7 years. My patients have many diagnoses, including: Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, prematurity, Muscular Dystrophy, Scoliosis, drug exposure, seizures and Epilepsy, and general developmental delays. I have spent time working in schools, in homes, and in clinics. One of my favorite opportunities was providing aquatic physical therapy for some patients at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.

I love working with children. They offer me inspiration. They have so much of life left and have the potential to do or become anything.  One of my favorite things about working as a pediatric physical therapist is being able to witness the joy both parent and child find as their world opens up through growth and progress. My goal is for each child that receives treatment to leave healthier and with better quality of life.

At Home

I am a native Californian and grew up in Orange County. Aside from working as a pediatric physical therapist, I am also a wife and a mother. I married my very supportive husband while in graduate school. We spent much of our first 2 years of marriage apart and during that time I learned that marriage takes work and communication. My 3 beautiful girls are ages 9, 6, and 3. Things were not all smooth sailing with my babies — 2 of them required therapy themselves. One of my pregnancies was riddled with the stress of weekly ultrasounds.  And one of my daughters developed digestion and intestinal problems that made nursing and feeding a challenge. My girls are each their own person with varying interests from art, to gymnastics, and singing.

A couple of my favorite hobbies include reading and sewing. I prefer the fantasy and science fiction genres, although I do branch out every now and then. My favorite author is K.M. Shea and I proudly consider myself one of her “champions.” Another pastime of mine is playing board games and cooperative videogames with my husband. My favorite movie is The Court Jester — and yes, I know that is a really old movie.
